While I work on the city stuff in the background, our Republican Convention team is full steam ahead.
I had a briefing from Secret Service earlier this week where they are beginning to dribble out information about the security around the event. As you might imagine, the information isn’t specific yet but I thought I should share…
- There will be a secure perimeter around both Quicken Loans Arena where the event is and The Cleveland Convention Center where the media is “stationed”
- The sizes of the perimeters are still classified but generally if you could hit one of the venues with a baseball, you are inside the perimeter.
- If people need to get items (documents, packages, food, etc) inside the perimeter, the package will have to be inspected by secret service and then escorted by us and Secret Service to the recipient.
- There are no current credible threats against the event. If any arise, they will tell us.
- Delegates will be transported using 500 busses that service all of the regional hotels and the perimeter via “parade routes”
- The parade routes will be announced next week
- We still intend to “import” professional vehicles and Chauffeurs, educate them about the event, give them work, put them up in hotels and feed them.
- If you are within a day’s chauffeur and would like to participate, let me know what, what kind and how many. We’ll add you to the list.
- It is not yet announced where the entry point into the perimeter will be or more importantly, what we will need to be able to get in. This information is likely coming mid June.
- Another secret Service briefing is coming a week from Tuesday. I’ll report what I learn.
